Greetings to all Malaysia Peugeot Network members and fans of D.I.Y session.
While driving we are often distracted by the dins that that come from outside the car, and so we cannot enjoy the sounds of our hi-fi system, CD player or the radio in the cabin. These outside noises will definitely disturb our tranquility when we drive and like it or not, this may influence the way we drive. If we were to send our cars to the workshop to get the external noises reduced, we would first consider the cost involved, for it would definitely cost a bomb.
Now, I will talk about how to make the cabin of your car soundproof with a minimum of cost. All you need are a little courage to experiment, some energy and a little bit of time to do it at the comfort of your home or anywhere you think fit, in a group or alone. I'll explain the steps and procedures in the most common language so that even a layperson could do it.
First, let's check that we have all the necessary
equipment as follows:

Now that we have got everything ready, let's start our DIY session. I will start off with the bonnet (where the engine is). (It is really up to you whether you wish to begin with the internal or external part of your car, depending on the time and your convenience). Remove the under bonnet cover and wipe off any oily marks and dirt or dust. Then measure the width and length of the bonnet, following its shape. Next, cut the foam matted sponge according to the shape of the bonnet and attach the foam with active glue. Once finished, fix the under bonnet cover to its proper place.
Move on to the door. Here, I would explain about the front door only. Remember, caution must be taken when you are DIY-ing on the door so that you won't damage parts that are made of plastic. Take off all the 4 main screws and the 5 screws on the speaker panel (2 outside, 3 inside). Also remove the door opener cover and door opener lever, Take off the door cover very carefully.
Clean the interior part by wiping off tar marks, oil stains and dust. Use soap-based cleaner and do not never use oil-based cleaner. Measure the parts to be covered with the foam matted sponge and cut out the sponge according to the shape of the door. It is advisable to cut small pieces rather than large ones to make the fixing job a lot easier.
Do the same for other parts that you prefer. As for me, I tried it on the back seat, the boot (trunk). And, if you wish, you can do the roof (but it is not necessary to do so).
Once you have finished with fixing the foam matted sponge on all desired parts, reaffix the parts of the car that have been temporarily removed. Tidy up a bit and remove glue stains, etc.
It is quite unfortunate that I do not have any instrument to measure sound so I cannot really say how effective the processes have been. Notwithstanding the limitation, I did some kind of old-fashioned tests (i.e by driving at the speed of 170-180km/hr) and, alhamdulillah, the ruckus and clamour coming from outside of the car was notably reduced and so I could enjoy the hi-fi in the comfort of my car.
Try it out and see for yourself. With DIY, you can do amazing things, which will normally burn holes in your wallet.
Good luck, and see you again soon in other DIY session.
